Growing Time in the Nursery
There's lots of growth to be seen as you walk around the nursery. The potato buckets are looking good- so are the potato plants in the tyre gardens outside the nursery.
Giant Care Code Pencils
We are loving the giant care code pencils! They are colourful and fun and definitely improve our environment. The pencils were a 2013 student House Leader project.
Sustainable School Award 2014
Mr Parker and Mrs Clark came to a school assembly to officially present our school award and prize of $2,000.00. Molly responded with thanks from all of us.
Keep New Zealand Beautiful Clean Up Week
Our Clean Up was a week late due to our school production being on the actual week of the nationwide Clean Up.
The Envirokids cleaned up Victoria Park and The Green Team cleaned up the Uenuku Walkway which had very little waste, and the Makino Pools park. We collected 6 full rubbish bags of litter. Quite shocking!

Class Envirojobs
Room H do a fantastic job for our school by looking after the school paper recycling bins. The area around them is kept tidy, cardboard boxes are flattened and any 'extras' that shouldn't be in there are quickly taken out.
Thanks for taking your job seriously and demonstrating commitment to our enviroschool Room H.
Giant Pencils
The new giant sized pencils are looking good. We love to see the Care Code on each pencil. This was a great project to enhance our environment.
Thank you from WWF- New Zealand
The money we raised from the sale of a painting from every class was $1,149.60.
Go Manchester Street School!!
Art Auction to raise funds for WWF- Maui's Dolphins
What a fantastic fundraiser idea this was. We are so proud to be taking positive action to help save the Maui's dolphins from extinction.

We are learning about the new weather station we have at school. Mr Baratt has been teaching us about the different parts of the weather station and showed us the screen in the office area that we can look at to find out things like- the temperature, the wind speed, the wind direction and the level of humidity. We are really excited to have this here.

What in the World is a dugong?
Isn't it great to see people taking responsibility for the future of these lovely animals?

New Home for Worm Farms
The Junior Green Team have moved our worm farms from the Nursery, into the old blue shed by the nursery- the one with worms painted on it! It is cooler in there and we hope the worms will be very happy and keep making us lots of wonderful worm tea. What a great way to use our food scraps. This is a positive action we take for the environment at our school.
Food Glorious Food
We have crops of peppers and lettuce and beetroot ready for harvesting very soon. What meals could we make from them we wonder?
Growing food from seed is lots of fun. We are learning skills that we can use for the rest of our lives.
Budgie Aviary
Our new bird aviary is now up and running. Mr Belk laid a concrete pad for it and Mr Harber water blasted and painted it for us. We have 7 budgies so far. Students from Room C look after this aviary and make sure the birds always have plenty of food and fresh water. We are learning to respect and care for living things.
Forest Gecko Enjoying the Sun
We were lucky to spot one of our geckos sunning himself on a branch. He is looking very healthy and happy. It is a very big responsibility caring for an endangered species.
Busy Gardeners
The Envirokids have been helping Mr Harber to plant the griselinia trees in the new garden behind Room K. Great team work!
This area is looking really good with a new fence and a new garden. We will need to look after these trees carefully for the next few months until they are well established.
