Green Team Planting at Kitchener Park

The Green Team worked with Mr Scott and Jayden helping to plant native trees at the park. Jayden showed us how to plant them and Mr Scott talked to us about the importance of trees and about the history of the park. He is very excited about future plans for the park. It was lots of fun being community volunteers. Gecko Environmental very kindly gave us the use of one of their portaloos for the day.

Chook House Completed!

It's finished and looking pretty amazing. A huge thank you to the parent Mr Palmer and Grandparents Mr and Mrs Murphy who spent a lot of their time over the last 2 weeks on this project. They have built a quality chook house using lots of recycled timber and bits with a bit of new wood also.
It got the seal of approval from Mr Ward who noted it will be around long after we have gone! Next step, when it is a little drier, is feathered and friendly inhabitants. It is a very exciting time and we can't wait to fill this little house.

Compost Bins On the Move...

We have moved lots of the compost bins out of the Wilderness Area to sunnier spots so that we can make better compost faster. Fynn has chosen some native plants for the area and is planting them.

Snow Peas are growing

We're excited to see the snow peas growing in our veggie gardens again because we LOVE picking them and eating them.

Green Team hand over job to keen students

Sorting the food scraps has to be done so that the worms get the food that they like to eat and not food they hate- like citrus!! The Green Team are giving this job to Room G and Room Q- our New Entrant classes. They really want a class enviro job. They will be helping us to reduce waste at our school. This is taking positive action for the environment. They are learning to follow the green part of the Care Code.

Pair of Tuis in the Wilderness Area

When the Green Team was working in the nursery 2 tuis entertained us and even let us get up really close to them. We spotted a nest close to them and we wonder if they were protecting it.

Green Team Make a Pumice Sculpture for the Nursery

We asked Mr Harber to help us drill holes in the pumice. We used a piece of steel rod to thread the pieces of pumice onto. Then we found a good place to display our new piece of garden art!
